01
Arrival in Marrakech
Airport pickup Free evening
Private transfer from Marrakech Menara Airport to your riad in the medina. After check-in, meet your driver-guide for a short welcome briefing on the days ahead. The rest of the day is free to wander the alleys of the old city, browse the souks, and watch the sunset over the rooftops of Djemaa el-Fna.
02
Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Dades Valley
~360 km ~7h drive
Depart Marrakech and climb over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at panoramic viewpoints along the way. Visit the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Ait Benhaddou before continuing past Ouarzazate into the rose-hued Dades Valley, home to some of Morocco's finest mudbrick kasbahs. Overnight at a kasbah guesthouse in the valley, with dinner included.
03
Dades Valley → Merzouga Desert (Camel Trek & Desert Camp)
~300 km ~6h drive
Continue east through the Todra Gorge and the date-palm oasis of Erfoud to the edge of the Sahara at Merzouga. In the late afternoon, mount your camel for a sunset trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy a traditional dinner in the desert camp, followed by an overnight stay under the stars.
04
Full Day Merzouga Desert Exploration (Sunrise, Dunes & Nomad Culture)
4x4 & on foot Full day
Watch the sunrise over the dunes before breakfast, then set out by 4x4 to explore the desert around Merzouga: visit the Gnawa musicians of Khamlia village for a live performance of their trance-inducing rhythms, share tea with a nomad family at the edge of the erg, and spend the afternoon among the ever-shifting dunes of Erg Chebbi. A second night in the desert camp, with dinner in the desert camp included.
05
Merzouga → Rissani Souk → Ouarzazate ('Door of the Desert')
~380 km ~7h drive
Sunrise over the dunes before breakfast and a camel ride back to camp. Drive to Rissani, once the region's great caravan crossroads, to browse its ancient souk. Continue west to Ouarzazate, the former garrison town known as the 'door of the desert' and home to the Atlas Film Studios. Visit Kasbah Taourirt, the former residence of the Glaoui pashas, before checking in for the night.
06
Ouarzazate → Taroudant ('Grandmother of Marrakech')
~230 km ~5h drive
Cross the Anti-Atlas range toward Taroudant, a walled city so reminiscent of Marrakech in miniature that it's nicknamed the 'Grandmother of Marrakech.' Settle into your riad, then in the late afternoon take an optional calèche (horse-drawn carriage) ride around the 7.5 km of red mudbrick ramparts before dinner in the medina.
07
Taroudant → Argan Country → Essaouira (Atlantic Coast)
~280 km ~5h30 drive
Head north through the argan forests, stopping to spot goats climbing the twisted argan trees and to visit a women's cooperative producing argan oil by hand. Arrive on the Atlantic coast at Essaouira in the afternoon, with the evening free to explore the UNESCO-listed medina, the fishing port, and the ramparts at sunset.
08
Essaouira – Full Day Coastal Exploration
Free / guided day Full day
A full free day to enjoy Essaouira at your own pace, or join an optional guided walk through the medina's art galleries, spice stalls, and thuya-wood workshops. Climb the Skala de la Ville sea bastion for views over the Atlantic, relax on the wide sandy beach, or try an optional surfing or horseback riding session on the sand.
09
Essaouira → Return to Marrakech & Departure
~190 km ~2h30 drive
A final free morning in Essaouira, with time for a last coffee by the port or a few souvenirs from the medina. In the early afternoon, drive back to Marrakech across the coastal plain, arriving in time for your onward flight or a private drop-off at your Marrakech hotel.
